Margrit Trein
Work Department
Margrit is a senior associate in our International Arbitration and Dispute Resolution Group. Her practice focuses on international commercial and investment arbitration, public international law, and arbitration-related English court proceedings. She has represented clients on complex, high profile and multi-jurisdictional matters under all major arbitral rules across a range of sectors including the energy, construction, infrastructure, consumer and telecoms sectors. She is based in London, having also spent six months with the International Arbitration and Public International Law team in Paris. She is qualified to practice in England and Wales. In respect of international law matters, Margrit has advised both States and investors in disputes arising under various bilateral and multilateral investment treaties. Margrit has extensive experience representing clients in commercial arbitrations, especially in the consumer and energy sectors. In recent years, she has acted for various State-owned companies in high value disputes concerning oil and gas projects. She also has experience advising on complex quantum issues. Margrit is an active member of the firm's LatAm Group. Margrit holds a B.A. degree in Politics and Spanish and an M.A. degree in International Relations, both from the University of Exeter; an LL.B. from the College of Law (now the University of Law); and an LL.M. in Public International Law from Leiden University (cum laude). Prior to joining the firm, she also completed a short course in International Commercial Litigation and Arbitration at the London School of Economics.
