Work Department

David is a senior associate in our human resources practice group. Having trained at Eversheds, he is a member of our education employment and student issues teams and works exclusively with clients in the further and higher education sectors, schools, academies and private education providers.

As a member of our education employment team, David advises clients on a broad range of contentious and non-contentious employment matters. This includes: day-to-day employee relations issues; complex grievances, disciplinaries and whistleblowing cases; absence management and capability issues; redundancy and restructure exercises; TUPE and merger issues; equality and diversity; child protection and safeguarding; DPA/FOIA requests; contractual documentation and atypical working (including fixed term and part time staff, hourly paid lecturers and zero hour contracts); working with sector trades unions; the negotiation of settlement agreements; and support with policies and procedures.

David has gained significant experience in assisting clients successfully defend a variety of claims in the employment tribunal. As a member of our academies team, David regularly supports schools through the academy conversion process, including regarding the legal and practical implications of TUPE and restructure and redundancy exercises prior to and following a conversion process.

As a member of our student issues group, David advises education sector clients on contentious and non-contentious student issues. David regularly advises on: student contracts and policies and procedures; student complaints; student discipline, fitness to practise and fitness to study; student mental health; equal opportunities; discrimination; DPA/FOIA and confidentiality; international students, placements and overseas study; and safeguarding and DBS issues.

David regularly delivers training and has written articles on a broad range of employment and student related subjects. David has completed a diploma in employment law and is a member of the Employment Lawyers Association.
