Matt is a Partner in our Litigation and Dispute Management Practice Group. He specialises in mainstream commercial litigation and he has a wide range of dispute resolution experience, having been involved in many high value and complex disputes for a wide range of clients. Matt is rated by Chambers & Partners as leading individual, described as an “impressive litigator” with clients appreciating his ability to offer “very constructive advice and interpretation”.

Matt regularly advises clients on a broad spectrum of disputes including, amongst others, matters in relation to commercial contract disputes, commercial fraud cases, warranty claims and negligence claims. Matt also has a keen interest in defamation law and regularly advises clients in respect of defamatory publications and associated media/reputation issues.

As well as providing clients with strategic, commercial advice to resolve disputes before they escalate, Matt has a wealth of experiences of High Court proceedings. He also has experience of numerous alternative dispute resolution methods, including extensive mediation experience.

Matt's recent experience includes: defending a global corporate group in a multi-million pound claim in breach of contract; acting for a foreign football club in a multi-million pound claim against the FA Premier League, the Football League and the Football Association arising out of the demise of Portsmouth Football Club; and acting for a large corporate organisation in a complex fraud and tracing investigation against a former managing director.

Matt is a member of the firm's Sports sector group and has advised a number of clients in respect of civil and regulatory issues arising in different sporting contexts.

Matt is a Council Member of Manchester Law Society and also sits on its Civil Litigation Committee.
