Rif is an Associate in the Company Commercial Practice Group. He is a specialist in all aspects of Information Law including Privacy, Data Protection, Freedom of Information and Environmental Information including corporate, regulatory, compliance and contentious matters and regularly reviews, drafts and negotiates commercial agreements for clients in several sectors.

He has recently advised on:

• the design of retail financial services products;
• due diligence and audits in the context of re-structures, mergers, acquisitions, public takeovers and IPOs involving multinationals;
• the implementation of employee tracking devices and monitoring practices;
• direct marketing initiatives, consent issues, profiling and privacy statements undertaken by well-known brands;
• international data transfer solutions in the context of cloud computing and data warehousing services for both customers and suppliers.

Rif has a strong contentious practice and has advised:

• leading public institutions on FOI appeals before the ICO and First-Tier Tribunal (Information Rights);
• both private and public sector clients on highly sensitive media information requests providing support balancing legal, regulatory and reputational risks;
• on employee, consumer rights and associated litigation;
• security breach incidents, self-reports, containment and corporate disputes.

Rif regularly deals with regulators, navigating clients faced with audit, investigations and enforcement proceedings. As such, he is well placed to advise on compliance practices and solutions before any intervention.
