Paula is a partner in the Insurance & Reinsurance team within our Financial Institutions Group. She advises insurers, insurance intermediaries, other financial services firms and businesses outside the financial sector on contentious and non-contentious insurance issues.

Her experience includes the drafting and negotiation of insurance market agreements, including binding authority agreements and claims handling agreements and the drafting and negotiating of insurance policy wordings in all classes of commercial business.

Paula also advises clients whose primary business is not insurance on issues arising from their involvement in the sale of insurance products, including the regulatory implications of doing so and the associated contractual documentation.

Her recent non contentious experience includes:

  • advising upon whether particular warranty products are contacts of insurance; 
  • drafting commercial combined, fidelity and directors and officers policy wordings; 
  • drafting binding authority agreements for various lines of business.

She regularly advises on disputes in relation to insurance market agreements and policy coverage. Paula also has extensive experience in handling professional indemnity disputes, specifically in relation to accountants, insurance brokers and stockbrokers.

Cases in which she has acted include:

  • Bank of Scotland v Euclidian (no.1) Ltd [2007];
  • Goshawk dedicated No.2 v the Governor and the Bank of Scotland 2006 2 All ER 60;
  • Bedfordshire Policy Authority v DA Constable & Others 2008 EWHC 1375
