Richard is an associate in our corporate commercial practice group. Richard trained with Eversheds and qualified into the tax team in September 2012.

Since qualifying, Richard has had experience of a wide spectrum of tax matters. As a result, Richard undertakes a broad area of work within the tax team and can assist on a range of tax matters.

In particular, Richard regularly provides advice on:

  • a variety of corporate transactions (both share and asset deals), including the drafting and negotiation of documents, and dealing with post-transaction stamp duty and SDLT payments and applications. Richard also provides structuring advice in relation to such transactions;
  • property transactions, including complex SDLT analysis, transaction structuring and review of documentation. Richard also advises on the VAT, capital allowance and CIS implications of a property transaction;
  • a wide variety of employment tax queries, including PAYE operation, tax considerations in respect of international employee arrangements, and the tax treatment of termination payments; and
  • a range of VAT matters, including (i) domestic and international supplies of goods and services, (ii) gifts and charitable donations, (iii) advising education sector clients, and (iv) zero-rating and VAT exempt supplies.

A recent focus of Richard's has been assisting clients in the clean energy sector, in particular advising on tax aspects of high value and strategic disposals and acquisitions. Clients in this area have included Blackrock Investment Management (UK) Limited, Zouk Solar Opportunities Limited and SunEdison Inc.

Other regular clients Mitchells & Butlers Retail Limited, HSBC, TFL, Capita plc and Legal and General.

Richard delivers training, both internally and externally, on a range of property tax, VAT and employment tax subjects.
