Paul is a Partner in our Restructuring team having specialised in all aspects of non-contentious restructuring and insolvency since commencing training in 1989.

Clients include all the principal funders including Barclays, LBG, HSBC, RBS, NAG and CoOperative Bank, IP accountants nationally represented including PWC, KPMG, DT, EY and GT, BDO, Zolfo Cooper, Begbies Traynor, RSM Tenon as well as specialist local practitioners.

Notable local cases over the years have included Slaley Hall, Stanley Miller plc, Swan Hunters, Vaux Breweries, various football clubs, Baltic Flour Mill, Gill Airways, Electrolux, Sunderland Arc and Glass Centre, Dixon Sports, Crouch Mining and more recently advising on the sale of MG Sports Cars as part of the MG Rover administration, Allsports,  Wessex Taverns, Halifax/BoS on their strategy for their nationally franchised estate agency branches, plant closures and European restructure of Arizona Chemicals, Findus,  Eshott and Hartford Halls, VFuels and Biofuels (CVA).

Paul is highly regarded in both Legal 500 and Chambers directories, is a former R3 Chairman NE Region and current committee member, member of the Institute for Turnaround and Insolvency Lawyers Association. 

Paul can boast the land mark case of New Bullas Trading on determination of fixed charges over book debts and is a regular speaker and contributor to R3 and other training events. 

Specific sector specialisms are leisure, LPA receiverships, construction, retail, healthcare (FT’s), pensions, energy and shipping support.

International experience includes a variety of matters more commonly dealt with in both the US and most of mainland Europe, but more recently and unusually the Czech Republic, China, Mozambique, South Africa and the Bahamas.
