Denise trained and worked as a corporate finance lawyer in the City before embarking on her in house career. She was Company Secretary and General Counsel at Asda during its rapid growth period and remained in this role once part of the international retailer, Wal Mart. She has extensive management experience having been part of the executive board and responsible for a number of functions such as pensions, shares schemes, CSR, corporate and public affairs, insurance and risk as well as the legal and secretarial functions. Earlier in her career Denise was sole in house lawyer for a UK/US listed conglomerate.

Since joining Eversheds as a partner in 2004, Denise has used her commercial experience and client perspective to help ensure that the firm delivers the type and style of services required by a diverse client base. She has introduced new products such as the innovative Eversheds Academy, a commercial awareness training programme for in house lawyers developed with Warwick Business School. Denise also provides guidance to clients seeking to optimise their in house legal resource to ensure it is valued and aligned with the business and provides individual and team development and coaching.

With a background in corporate and commercial and extensive in house experience, Denise advises clients on a wide range of strategic and operational in house management issues.

Denise has a portfolio of non executive directorships including Bellway plc and  the British Olympic Association and is Vice Chairman of Northern Ballet. She has previously held non executive roles in the retail, financial services, construction, health, education and the museums sectors. In 2012 she was named City Woman of Achievement  in recognition of her significant contribution to the promotion of gender equality in the workplace and in 2013 was awarded an honorary Doctorate of Laws for promoting women’s development in business.
