Ranked by the Legal 500 as the only Accredited Mediator of CEDR, UK working in Saudi Arabia, Anum is a Senior Associate in Eversheds’ Corporate Commercial team in Riyadh. He has 15 years’ experience both as in-house counsel and in private practice. Prior to joining Eversheds, Anum was practicing law as the Managing Partner in Saleem & Shiraz (Advocates and Legal Counsels) in Lahore, Pakistan. Anum actively litigated as well and gained extensive experience in commercial litigation before the provincial and Appeal courts. Anum, in addition to holding a post graduate degree from University of Toronto, holds a master’s degree in Economics.

His previous stints include heading the Legal and Corporate Affairs Department of an Investment Bank and acting as a GC to a companies’ conglomerate operating in the brokerage/hospitality and Power sector.

Anum specialises in competition law issues, franchising, distribution arrangements and M&A work. Anum’s recent experience includes acting as lead advisor to the following clients:

(i)Reckitt Benckiser, a major pharmaceuticals and household goods producer, on the consolidation of its agency and distribution relationships in Saudi Arabia; (ii)Starbucks, on distribution arrangements in Saudi Arabia; (iii) Modern Electronics Company, (a consumer electronics market leader with more than 35% market share and exclusive distributor of SONY products) on reviewing its online terms and conditions with Souq.com, the leading e-commerce vendor in the Middle East; (iv)Kansai Paints, on acquisition of a manufacturing facility in Saudi Arabia and business restructuring in Saudi Arabia; (v)Alfaisaliah group, on a large scale acquisition in the Dairy sector; (vi) ToastEd, on the sellers on sale of a 63% stake to a group of private investors; (vii)RMD Kwikform and Interserve, on the business restructuring and adding a new line of business to the existing set up;(viii) GEMS Education, on the sale of shares in a company operating in educational sector in Saudi Arabia; (ix)Al Rasheed Group, on acquisition of a minority stake in an industrial gas sector; (x)Metra Group, claims against Apple Computers for anti-competitive practices in relation to distribution agreements in the UAE and Saudi Arabia.(xi) Anum was also appointed as a National Consultant to the ITC on various occasions and jointly authored a report published by the ITC, Geneva. Anum taught Corporate Law at a highly rated business and management school for seven years, publishes regularly on legal issues and has spoken at various panel discussions. both locally and regionally. Anum’s comments have appeared in publications such as Wall Street Journal, The Lawyer and The National on various regulatory issues and has been interviewed on radio as well.
