At Squire Patton Boggs, Julia Yeo leads the Asia Pacific labour and employment team from Singapore. The broad practice covers employee relations risk management, workplace investigations, privacy and data security, and employment disputes, among other areas. It has an impressive list of multinational clients from multiple industries that routinely turn to the Singapore office for assistance with high-stakes and highly sensitive issues. While much of the practice centres on Southeast Asia, the team’s reach also extends to North and South Asia too.

Squire Patton Boggs‘ shipping group, established in 2019, is active across both wet and dry matters. The well-rounded team often acts for notable P&I clubs, shipping companies, lenders, insurers, and commodity traders throughout the shipping, ports and terminals, offshore vessels, and trading spaces. On the disputes side, the team has seen a number of matters involving sanctions and regulatory work, collisions and damages, and bills of lading disputes. The team is headed co-headed by Barry Stimpson, shipping and international disputes-focused Chris Swart, and finance and transaction focused practitioners Jessica Kenworthy and Kate Sherrard. Joel Cockerell is also a key name in wet disputes.

The projects and infrastructure group at Squire Patton Boggs has an established track record in assisting clients across Asia, Central Asia, and Australia with PPP matters, privatisations, and joint ventures. Key sector strengths include infrastructure, renewable energy, and LNG. The Singapore practice is headed by Barry Stimpson, who also co-heads the firm's Asia Pacific commodities and shipping department; Stimpson regularly advises on procurement issues. The team was bolstered by the arrival of Lian Yok Tan in May 2023.

Squire Patton Boggs‘ Singapore office is another to have made an impression in trade and commodities finance, along with ship finance. The firm is now frequently engaged in structured trade financings, and pre-export, prepayment, receivables and limited recourse structures. The team is noted for representing banks, alternative lenders and traders. Jessica Kenworthy has extensive experience in trade and commodity finance. Kate Sherrard provides further expertise in maritime and offshore oil and gas financings, while Lian Yok Tan has brought additional project finance expertise to the group having joined the firm from K&L Gates Straits Law LLC in April 2023.

Squire Patton Boggs has a ‘cohesive and very hard-working’ international arbitration practice, with expertise across international commercial and investment treaty arbitrations, as well as public international law disputes. Energy, shipping, commodities, and infrastructure are particular areas of focus of the team. At leadership level, Rodman Bundy is a ‘great advocate and brilliant strategist’, and is head of the ‘team of great partners and associates’ along with Barry Stimpson, who brings expertise in energy and commodities. Also highly active in the commodities space is Chris Swart. The team continues to expand with the arrival of Joel Cockerell from HFW Singapore LLP in August 2022, and associate Arnavi Panda from Mills & Co in May 2023.

Squire Patton Boggs‘s arbitration practice represents clients in international commercial arbitrations, investment treaty arbitrations, and public international law disputes. The team acts across the energy, shipping, commodities, and infrastructure sectors, with a renowned energy and gas price review practice. Based in Singapore, managing partner Barry Stimpson co-leads the team with Rodman Bundy. In Australia, Cris Cureton  leads the group out of the firm’s Sydney office, with an emphasis on the construction, energy, and mining sectors. Key practitioners include Greg Steinepreis in Perth and Vicky Kossaris in Darwin.

Latin America: International firms > International arbitration

Squire Patton Boggs  represents a number of sovereigns and government-owned entities in major cases. Clients include the Republics of Ecuador, Peru, Panama and Costa Rica, with recent mandates including defence of the latter in a Costa Rica-Spain BIT case brought by a Spanish investor. The team is also notably active in energy and transportation-related cases. Although probably best-known for its investor-state experience, the firm is a recognised force in representing state-owned companies and private companies in commercial arbitrations. Raúl Mañón heads the international dispute resolution practice in Miami and is the key figure for Latin America-related arbitrations, along with John Adam and Jose Feris (both of them in Paris), who are senior investment and commercial arbitration specialists. Singapore partner Rodman Bundy is a leading name in public international law and has represented Latin American governments in a number of state-to-state cases.
