Alex Wood is Of Counsel in our Financial Restructuring & Insolvency practice based in London after retiring as a partner with over 25 years’ experience. He continues to consult with Shearman & Sterling as well as pursuing other interests, including academic.
Alex is experienced in all aspects of business restructuring and insolvency and focuses on complex insolvency work and financial services (including insurance) insolvency and restructuring. He has expertise in the design and implementation of complex schemes of arrangement, cross-border restructurings and formal insolvency procedures.
Alex is recognised across the leading legal directories including Chambers UK 2023 and Chambers Europe 2023 where he is ranked for Restructuring/Insolvency and Legal 500 UK 2023 where he is ranked as a ‘Leading Individual’. Now headed by Kevin Heverin, following the retirement from the partnership of Alex Wood (he continues in a senior consultancy role), Shearman & Sterling LLP‘s small core restructuring team is best-suited to handling special situations/transactional distressed work, which lends itself to a more collaborative approach with the firm’s broader corporate and finance functions. In this capacity, the team is well-versed at handling Middle Eastern situations and is also able to leverage the firm’s US resources to good effect on transatlantic mandates. Sam Brodie returned to Akin in September 2022, while Helena Potts joined Paul Hastings LLP in February 2023.
