United Arab Emirates > Oil, gas and natural resources
(Hall of Fame)Gibson Dunn has recently undergone a period of substantial change, welcoming sector veterans Renad Younes and Marwan Elaraby from Shearman & Sterling LLP in January 2023 and October 2022 respectively, with the duo helming this newly bolstered oil and gas offering. The team specialises in blockbuster M&A transactions, advising state-owned entities and multinational companies on equity investments, buyouts and joint venture agreements. The team is a popular choice for leading UAE players, and as such the team has been exposed to wider instructions that include initial public offerings and the reorganisation of interests, as well as a wealth of multi-jurisdictional opportunities. In addition to Younes and Elaraby, Samuel Ogunlaja, Laleh Shahabi and Jade Chu also joined from Shearman & Sterling LLP, bringing expertise in corporate issues. Associate Andrea Calla is singled out for his crucial supporting presence on key matters.
United Arab Emirates > Commercial, corporate and M&A
Gibson Dunn handles oil and gas transactions alongside instructions from sovereign wealth funds, asset managers and multinational corporations on a range of commercial and corporate issues. In recent work, the group has assisted with agricultural and farming deals in South America and, fintech mandates in Northern Africa. Marwan Elaraby, who handles multi-jurisdictional M&A, private equity, and regulatory work, and Renad Younes, who primarily works with financial institutions and governments on M&A transactions in the energy and infrastructure space, are the practice heads. Jade Chu is also active in corporate matters and Hanna Chalhoub is principally focused on private equity. Andrew Steele and Omar Morsy are also noted.
United Arab Emirates > Infrastructure and projects (including project finance)
A go-to for investors – both global and regional – and industry players active in LNG and LNG-to-power ventures in the region, Gibson Dunn has also tapped into renewables and infrastructure opportunities, including advising on the development and procurement of large-scale green hydrogen projects, overseeing chemical production facility builds, and the financing of landmark ‘blue’ ammonia production facilities. Practice head Renad Younes joined from Shearman & Sterling in January 2023, bringing with her Samuel Ogunlaja and Laleh Shahabi . All three practitioners are well placed to act on a broad range of assets, with the latter particularly noted for her financing expertise.
