Christopher Hilditch is a partner in the Investment Management Group at Schulte Roth & Zabel. He serves as co-head and co-founding partner of the firm’s London office. With 25 years of experience advising many of the highest profile hedge funds, Chris focuses his practice on entrepreneurial and institutional investment managers, other financial services firms and investment funds, especially hedge funds, hybrid funds, co-investment funds and distressed funds. He provides practical and strategic advice on the structuring and operation of funds and investment managers, including fundraising, investor issues, investment transactions and financing as well as regulatory and compliance matters.

Chris has been described by interviewees in The Legal 500 UK as “excellent” and “knows the industry inside out” and in Chambers UK as “fantastic — practical, commercial and knows his stuff” and as a “go to lawyer for dealing with a complicated hedge fund.” He received an “Outstanding Contribution” award for his services to the hedge fund industry in 2017 (The Hedge Fund Journal Awards). He has also written on a wide range of hedge fund and regulatory topics, authored a chapter on “Conflicts of Interest” in Investment Management, Law and Practice (Oxford University Press), and co-authored a chapter on “United Kingdom Considerations” in Hedge Funds: Formation, Operation and Regulation (ALM Law Journal Press).

Schulte Roth & Zabel International LLP stands out in the London hedge funds arena, as demonstrated by the fact it acts for more than half of the 100 largest hedge fund managers in the world. The London team, which is co-led by Christopher Hilditch and Josh Dambacher, added 45 clients to its sizeable portfolio in 2018; Greenvale Capital LLP, Indar Capital LLP and JNE Partners LLP were among the client wins. Noted for its ability to advise on UK and US law, the group assists clients with fund formation, ongoing management and regulatory issues, spin-outs as well as related tax matters. Dambacher led the advice to Boldhaven Management LLP on the launch of long/short equities focused Cayman and Delaware master/feeder funds, which totalled $800 million in assets under management (AUM) after six months of trading. In another matter, Dambacher and Lee Smith are acting for Cevian Capital on the negotiation of multiple investments from institutional investors, including US pension funds and sovereign wealth funds. Emily Brown joined in 2018 from Macfarlanes LLP, while Anthony Lombardi and Smith were more recently promoted as special counsels.

In the emerging markets space, Christopher Hilditch and Cathy Weist assisted Falcon Edge Capital with launching its second fund which seeks to invest in private equity in India. Private equity fund formation of this kind is a key focus area, in addition to co-investment work and hybrid funds. The firm also offers funds-related tax and regulatory advice. On the LP side, the group boasts specialist expertise in distressed investing. The team hired Emily Brown from Macfarlanes LLP in November 2018. Josh Dambacher and Hilditch are joint practice heads.
