Fernando was an associate at Clifford Chance in Washington for three years, participating in financing and acquisition operations in Peru, Argentina, Brazil, Ecuador, United States, Philippines, Turkey, Russia and Central America. In 2006 he was seconded to the infrastructure group of General Electric & Co. in Stamford, Connecticut and is a professor in the Master in Company Law of Universidad Peruana de Ciencias Aplicadas.
