Alvaro’s professional practice focuses on designing, providing advice on, negotiating and structuring various financing transactions, representing both local and international financial institutions and corporate borrowers or securities issuers, in matters such as syndicated loans, acquisition financing, public and private offerings of marketable securities and other transactions. Moreover, Alvaro’s practice focuses on investment and mutual funds and securitized instruments. He joined the firm as an associate in 2010. His previous experience includes working as an international associate in White & Case’s New York office and as an associate at Hernández & Cía. Abogados (2008 to 2010). Alvaro holds an LL.B. from the Pontificia Universidad Católica del Perú and an LL.M. from the University of Chicago. His native language is Spanish and he is fluent in English.

Juan Luis Avendaño Cisneros is rivalled by few in the market for his expertise and has enjoyed another successful year, despite the backdrop of Covid, leading advice on multiple high-value mandates. They include Banco de Crédito del Perú (BCP)’s $1.6bn debt offering and two tender offers, representing BofA Securities, Citigroup Global Markets, Credicorp Capital Sociedad Agente de Bolsa and JP Morgan Securities as underwriters. Miranda & Amado stands out for its dual strengths in both sophisticated transactions and banking regulatory work, attracting a strong following among international investments banks and Peru’s largest domestic banks as a result. The firm has been particularly busy this year in high-end debt financing for the mining and infrastructure industries; it acted for Citibank as trustee and onshore security agent in the $229m loan granted by Santander, BBVA Perú and Itaú Corpbanca (New York Branch) to Salaverry Terminal Internacional, a deal led by practice head José Miguel Puiggros. On the banking regulatory side, the firm has historically advised on the establishment of a number of banks in the country and boasts one of the market’s leading practitioners in this sphere in Rafael Corzo. Other star names within the 16-strong team include Juan Luis Avendaño Cisneros, widely admired and a regular lead adviser in headline transactions, and junior partner Gabriela Dañino, who also takes the lead on heavyweight deals; together they led advice to Scotiabank on its $250m loan to Peruvian mining company Compañia Minera Antamina. The ten-strong associate bench includes senior Álvaro Del Valle, noted for his international experience and involvement in key matters. Since publication, Del Valle has been raised to the partnership – effective as of January 2022.
