Career

His professional practice focuses on infrastructure project development and financing, multilateral and corporate financing, capital markets, regulation, merger control and competition law. Enrique has participated in several of the most important financial transactions and competition cases carried out in Peru in the past years. He is a frequent lecturer and speaker on matters relating to his field of expertise in Peru and abroad. Enrique was a Partner at Miranda & Amado from 2000 to July 2016. He has served as Chief of Advisors to the Peruvian Prime Minister from 2016 to 2017 and Special Presidential Envoy to the Organisation for Economic Co-Operation and Development – OECD in Paris in 2017. He rejoined the firm as Partner in 2018. Also, Enrique has served as President of Alianza Pro Bono, Peru’s Pro Bono clearinghouse, from 2013 to 2016, and he has been a member of the Executive Committee and Board of Directors of Enseña Perú, Peru’s local chapter of Teach for All, from 2013 to 2016, as well as a member of the Board of COFIDE, Peru’s development bank, from 2016 to 2017, and is a member of the Executive Committee of the Red Pro Bono de las Américas (2019 to date). In 2014, he received the Pro Bono Lawyer of the Year in Latin America award given by Latin Lawyer. Before joining the firm, he was an associate with Curtis, Mallet-Prevost, Colt & Mosle LLP in New York from 1997 to 2000 and served as Technical Secretary of INDECOPI’s Unfair Competition Commission from 1995 to 1996. Enrique is a lawyer from Pontificia Universidad Católica del Perú, where he graduated with highest honors, and holds an LL.M. Degree from Yale Law School.

Miranda & Amado’s banking and finance team remains active and well regarded in the market; it regularly advises on large cross-border transactions for high-profile domestic and international banks and financial institutions, as well as corporate clients. On the transactional side, the practice handles structured finance, loans and project finance and banking-sector M&A, and on the regulatory side, it offers considerable experience in the licensing of local banks. The practice is led by Gabriela Dañino, who brings expertise in cross-border finance and capital markets deals, and also heads the firm’s fintech practice. Juan Luis Avendaño offers strong support in acquisition finance and banking license issues, while Rafael Corzo is a key name for regulatory matters, bankruptcy issues and disputes. It has a strong track record in highly regulated industries, such as energy and natural resources, infrastructure, life sciences and transport, and on the contentious side, the practice is known for representing clients in procedures before governing bodies. Willy Pedreschi heads the team and focuses on administrative, regulatory, infrastructure and public procurement matters; he is supported by counsel Marife Martinelli, who brings former experience at OSINERGMIN, with a strong practice in public law matters relating to the electricity, oil and gas, and water sectors. Miranda & Amado‘s ‘agile‘ and ‘efficient‘ competition team is jointly headed by Enrique Felices and Fiorella Zumaeta, who act for key clients including Linde, Obrascón Huarte Lain and Grupo Repsol, among others. The practice regularly deals with high-profile antitrust and unfair competition cases, as well as litigation and client representation before INDECOPI. Recent work for the team includes assisting Centurylink Perú in the first pre-merger notification proceeding under the merger control law, as well as advising Clorox on the preparation of complaints involving consumer protection and unfair competition. The practice is also experienced in assisting clients with antitrust matters, such as dealing with cartel proceedings, filing merger control transactions, and advising on complex compliance programmes.

Miranda & Amado‘s compliance team is capable of handling the full spectrum of compliance matters, with recent work including advising a client in a bid-rigging investigation, reviewing compliance programmes, and representing clients in investigations before INDECOPI. The team, led by Bruno Amiel, is made up of six partners and nine lawyers; Amiel is recommended for corporate compliance issues, while José Luis Velarde and Rafael Díaz are key contacts for criminal compliance.
