Position

Ronald Sernau, co-chair of the Real Estate Department and co-chair of the Private Equity Real Estate practice, represents parties in particularly visible transactions involving trophy properties. He represents landlords and tenants, lenders and borrowers, purchasers and sellers, equity investors and developers, managers and owners, and brokers and principals. Ron created the Proskauer Commercial Leasing System, which automates the commercial leasing process, reducing the processing time for a commercial lease from several weeks to several days. Realcomm awarded Ron with its prize for the best use of technology in real estate law in 2004.

Proskauer Rose LLP handles a range of real estate-related matters covering bankruptcy, tax, transactions, finance, leasing, litigation, labor and employment and environmental issues. Its client base includes sovereign wealth funds, institutional and specialty lenders, developers, private equity real estate funds, investment banks, pension funds and REITs. Practice co-head Ronald Sernau advised Extell Development on the $1.3bn financing for the construction of Central Park Tower in New York City. Private equity specialist Jeffrey Horwitz and M&A specialist Daniel Ganitsky recently acted for Morgan Stanley as financial advisor to Starwood Waypoint on its $20bn merger with Invitation Homes. Newly promoted partner Paul Polking advised Vornado Realty Trust on its $442m acquisition of Host Hotels & Resorts’ interest in two commercial condominium units in the New York Marriott Marquis hotel. Steven Lichtenfeld was lead partner for Urban Commons on various matters including a $650m consolidation of 10 hotel properties. Horrowitz, Perry Cacace and Los Angeles-based Douglas Frank acted for Rubicon on the acquisition and redevelopment of hotel properties in New York, New Jersey and St. Croix. Christopher Pennington is also recommended. Al Stemp joined as partner from Hogan Lovells US LLP and Don Melamed joined as partner from O'Melveny & Myers LLP in the Los Angeles office. Other clients include Accor, Empire City Casino, Morgan Stanley and SL Green. All named attorneys are based in New York unless otherwise stated.
