Chie has more than 20 years of experience representing both Japanese and non-Japanese corporations before Japanese courts in a wide range of litigation matters with an emphasis on intellectual property, antitrust/competition law and product liability, as well as complex cross-border commercial disputes. Chie has also led large-scale international investigations involving antitrust, anti-corruption, and other compliance matters. She has handled cases in a variety of industries, including software, hardware, consumer electronics, e-commerce, pharmaceuticals, biotechnology, transportation, real estate, and manufacturing.

Morrison Foerster‘s antitrust practice offers Japanese and non-Japanese clients an extensive depth of antitrust expertise across a number of industries. The firm regularly works on matters in the technology, automotive, transport, and pharmaceutical industries on merger reviews, monopoly issues, cartel matters, unfair trade practices, and administrative fines cases. The team is led by Tokyo and Brussels-based Rony Gerrits, who is also the co-chair of the firm’s global antitrust law practice group, and an expert in global cartel cases and follow-on civil damages litigation. Chie Yakura bolsters the team’s technology-related antitrust disputes practice, and regularly serves as lead counsel. Tomohiko Kimura and Daiske Yoshida also specialise in merger control, cartel defence, anti-corruption, and unfair trade practices investigations. Takahiro Nonaka is also a name of note, having joined from DLA Piper as is Andrew Meyer. Nonaka focuses on government and internal investigations, and Meyer is a litigation specialist.

The disputes and litigation department at Morrison Foerster offers a sizable bilingual team that serves Japanese clients on international and Japanese litigation matters and arbitrations across the full gamut of disputes work. The team’s expertise is well regarded by Japanese and international clients in the electronics, computer, and semiconductor industries, from which the firm has received new clients and mandates. The team is jointly led by Louise Stoupe and Yuka Teraguchi. Stoupe’s practice centres on technology and complex litigation, with recent instructions including representation of several automotive component manufacturers. New co-lead Teraguchi has a computer science background and focuses IP litigation and counselling. Max Olson is also key contact within the team, recently leading litigation for JOLED Inc in a patent infringement action against Samsung. Takahiro Nonaka joined the team from DLA Piper Tokyo, bringing a strong investigation, compliance, anti-corruption, and antitrust practice to the litigation department.
