Career

José Valentín specializes in constitutional, administrative, criminal, pharmaceutical, IP and white-collar crime law, as well as in regulatory and telecom matters.

Before becoming a partner at D’Empaire in 2001, he worked at the Political Administrative Chamber of Venezuelan Supreme Court of Justice as an assistant judge (1995-1999).

His noteworthy experiences include:

  • Representing Pfizer in a Lipitor® patent litigation at the Andean Supreme Tribunal and before Venezuelan governmental authorities.
  • Representing Corporación Digitel, a subsidiary of Telecom Italia Mobile in a trademark dispute against Movistar (Telefónica).
  • Representing Radio Caracas Televisión (RCTV) in several administrative proceedings concerning the renewal of its broadcasting license.

José is currently ranked as “Band 1” by Chambers & Partners (2019 Venezuela Public Law and White Collar Crime Rankings) and as a “Leading Lawyer” by The Legal 500 (2018 Venezuela Public Law Rankings).

He also teaches administrative law at Universidad Catolica Andres Bello.
