Position

Sean Connolly serves on Mayer Brown's Partnership Board and has been the Senior Partner in Mayer Brown's London office since 2007. He advises clients on insurance and reinsurance matters focusing on complex insurance market disputes and handling cases involving professional liability or financial institutions risks. Sean has represented major domestic and overseas insurance and reinsurance companies, Lloyd’s syndicates and their representatives, insurance brokers and other intermediaries and he acts on both contentious and non-contentious matters as well as the full range of alternative dispute resolution techniques. He advises these and other clients on professional indemnity disputes in areas including accountancy, legal, chartered surveying, investment banking, property management, insurance and reinsurance brokers and design consultancies. On the non-contentious side, he counsels clients on a variety of risk assessment and prevention issues. Sean also acts for insurers on matters involving investment banks, offshore investment companies, trust companies, stockbrokers and other financial institutions. He coordinates multi-jurisdictional insurer investigations and litigation, and has considerable experience providing guidance on the obligations of fiduciaries, company directors and trustees. Sean also acts in a wide range of cases for both insurers and reinsurers on claims involving motor manufacturers, the iron and steel industry, electrical products, heavy plant engineering, paints, pharmaceuticals and health products.

David Chadwick and his team moved to Kennedys; Jane Childs now heads the practice along with Sean Connolly, who continues to advise insurers including Chubb Insurance Company of Europe, Liberty Mutual Insurance Europe, and Lloyd's of London syndicates on five years of cover in respect of exposures of an independent financial adviser arising out of advice to invest in various film finance schemes. The firm has a strong international offering with offices in South America and links with Bermuda and Ireland; this allows for expertise in cross-border disputes. In addition, the team features lawyers who cover a broad range of insurance risks for major clients such as MDO Management Company, Chubb Insurance Company of Europe, Great Lakes Reinsurance (UK) and Liberty Mutual Insurance Europe.

Jim Oulton¬†is defending two BDO partners against allegations of negligence and dishonesty made in relation to the administration and sale of a hotel, and is defending HW Fisher & Company against allegations of negligence and breach of fiduciary duty, among others. Tom Duncan, who regularly handles construction-related professional indemnity claims, continues to advise Costain and its insurers on a number of issues which have arisen at three microbiological treatment plants and four IVC plants in Manchester, which are part of a ¬£4bn waste-to-energy project; he is also advising Costain and its insurers on a case relating to paving at the Port of Felixstowe.
