Mayer Brown's real estate industry-focused legal team is highly rated for its expertise in real estate development, property finance, real estate M&A and sales, and disputes. It stands out for its integrated construction and engineering practice that assists with both the contentious and non-contentious aspects of construction, building law, town planning and environment law; and the practice is experienced in handling all asset types, such as agricultural land, industrial buildings, logistics centres, self-storage, senior living, student housing, and educational institutions, in addition to commercial, residential and retail properties. It acted for Shui On Land in the approximately $510m buyout of the remaining 21 per cent stake in China Xintiandi, which was held by a Brookfield Asset Management-affiliated  portfolio company. Shanghai-based Andy Yeo advises developers, funds and other investors on investment structures, land and building acquisitions, establishing project companies, obtaining permits and licences, construction, and post-completion matters; and Tom Fu has extensive experience advising on construction projects in China, including compliance and regulatory matters. Also key to the mainland team are Rosalyn Han, who was recently promoted to counsel, and senior associate Ellen Zhang.

Mayer Brown's practice regularly works with lenders and equity investors on projects involving gas-fired, coal-fired, alternative and renewable energy, infrastructure and manufacturing facilities. It has also assisted with projects involving technology, healthcare, real estate and logistic assets.
