The firm's association with PRC firm Jingtian & Gongcheng recently ended but they have entered into a global cooperation agreement. The M&A team is able to draw upon the firm's expertise in regulatory, tax, fund formation and investment management, private equity, technology and real estate; it recently acted for a property development company in its disposal of a majority stake in a commercial complex development. Kennedy recently acted for Alibaba in several trade mark and domain name disputes and is representing Nautilus, a fitness equipment company in its China anti-counterfeiting strategy and its design patent infringement case. Mayer Brown took significant steps to build its Greater China projects and energy practice with the recruitment of Hallam Chow, who joined the firm from White & Case LLP and now heads the China projects team. Chow has considerable experience advising Chinese and regional lenders on domestic and cross-border finance and development matters, and has also been instructed by energy and utility companies in relation to strategically important energy and infrastructure projects. The firm also took on senior associate Boya Shen, who worked with Chow at White & Case LLP and has advised lenders, sponsors and investment funds on a variety of domestic and cross-border development projects. Based in Beijing, the team is involved in multiple market-first projects including a significant road project in East Africa and a large-scale telecoms project in Central Asia. The team acts for many of the major Chines bank lenders and has also been instructed by energy and utility companies such as China Water, China National Offshore Oil Corporation and ChemChina.

In addition to its widely respected transactions and development practice, Mayer Brown also has a dedicated real estate finance team that advises lenders on Hong Kong and PRC financing arrangements, loan restructuring, foreign exchange matters and security issues. Additional key areas include construction litigation and arbitration, large-scale, non-contentious infrastructure projects, and environmental law issues. Recent work includes advising InfraRed NF Investment Advisers and Dynamic Sino Company in relation to an investment in Beijing-based self-storage platform operator, China Mini Storage. It also assisted Swire Properties, a property developer, owner and operator of mixed-use properties in Hong Kong and mainland China, with the framework agreement with Shanghai Newbund Industrial Development Company for the joint development of a retail project in Shanghai. Andy Yeo advises developers, funds and other investors on investment structures, land and building acquisitions, the establishment of project companies, and obtaining the required permits and licences. Yeo's experience also includes construction, property title application, sales and leasing, and property management. Other key practitioners include Tom Fu, who advises on issues arising out of construction projects in China and on the drafting of contract documentation for China projects, while the senior associates to note are Rosalyn Han and Ellen Zhang. In Hong Kong, Keith Cheung, Ricky Yiu and Alan Yip are all experienced advisers.
