Position

Tow Lu (TL) Lim is a partner in the Hong Kong office of Mayer Brown’s Insurance and Reinsurance Practice. TL heads up the Directors’ & Officers’ Liability and Professional Indemnity Insurance Group within the practice.

TL has extensive experience in advising insurers on coverage issues with respect to professional indemnity and Directors & Officers’ claims. He was at the forefront of advising financial lines and D&O insurers on coverage and aggregation issues arising from hundreds of mis-selling claims made against various financial institutions in Hong Kong following the collapse of Lehman Brothers in 2008. He has advised professional indemnity insurers on claims against investment and asset management advisers, insurance intermediaries, property investment companies, corporate trustees, auditors, architects, engineers, solicitors and other professionals. He has acted as defence counsel for a number of such professionals as well. On non-contentious matters, TL works with insurers on the development of their policy wording in relation to professional indemnity and Directors & Officers’ policies. He also advises insurers and insurance intermediaries on regulatory issues in Hong Kong, as well as issues arising from non-admitted insurance in the PRC.

TL is the exclusive Winner of the Insurance – Client Choice Awards by International Law Office/Lexology (2017). He is also named as a Leading Individual in Insurance Law by Legal 500 Asia Pacific 2013-2018. He possesses a “high standard of practice” and “good business sense in dealing with a wide variety of insurance matters” (Legal 500 Asia Pacific 2016). Industry sources have commended him as being “very customer-oriented” and highlight his “deep knowledge on financial lines cases.” (Chambers Asia-Pacific 2016).

The Insurance and Reinsurance Practice in Hong Kong won the ALB Hong Kong Law Award’s Insurance Team of the Year for 2010, 2011, 2013 to 2015 and 2017.
