Position

Todd Maynes focuses his practice on the tax aspects of bankruptcy and tax litigation. He was the lead tax lawyer on many of the most significant restructurings in recent history, including EFH, United Airlines, Conseco, Calpine, Charter Communications and W.R. Grace, and is the only active tax attorney elected to the National Bankruptcy Conference. He is former chairman of the University of Chicago Federal Tax Conference and the Chicago-Kent Federal Tax Institute and is adjunct professor of taxation at the University of Chicago Law School and Northwestern University.

Shulman recently advised Spectrum Brands Holdings, a global consumer products company, on the sale of its Global Consumer Battery Business to Energizer Holdings for $2bn. Carew has been advising Apax Partners on its acquisition of a controlling stake in Healthium MedTech Private Limited, a leading India-based medical devices company. Todd Maynes continues to advise Tronox Limited on the tax aspects of the acquisition of the titanium dioxide business of Cristal, a privately held global chemical and mining company, valued at $2.2bn.  Lee Morlock is recommended. Collaborating with Natalie Keller, he secured a favorable decision for WR Grace in a bankruptcy court litigation, seeking a multimillion-dollar refund from the IRS of excess interest collected by the IRS on an income tax deficiency.
