Daniel McMillanJones Day

The construction practice at Jones Day is especially skilled in assisting troubled projects with successful completion and litigation avoidance. San Francisco-based Rowan Mason, who was recently promoted to the partnership, was part of the team that supported San Francisco-based Stephen O’Neal in a $2.2bn defense of Chevron against multiple claims by CPB Contractors. Claims brought against Chevron’s US-based entities were successfully resolved; litigation continues in Australia. Kent Lindsay and David Wallach, who are based in the firm’s San Francisco office, were also part of the team. In other headline litigation work, the firm is representing the Transbay Joint Powers Authority, one of the primary parties in the San Francisco Millennium Tower project; the dispute concerns defects with the tower, which have led to sinking and tilting among other issues, and amounts at stake total to more than $1bn. Los Angeles-based Daniel McMillan leads on the matter and has extensive experience in complex disputes; he is supported by a sizable team including of counsel Jeffrey Kirzner, who is based in Irvine, and counsel Jacqueline DeCamara, who is in the Los Angeles office. McMillan also has notable transactional expertise, which was evident in his advice on construction contracts for the next phase of the City of Hope project, which totals $750m. He was supported by Dallas-based Peter Laun. Andrew Ness retired.
