Career

Michael Giannotto is of counsel in Goodwin’s Business Litigation and Environmental Litigation practices. Mr. Giannotto is a nationally recognized expert in environmental issues impacting domestic and international hardrock mining companies, and in bankruptcy and bad faith litigation for major insurance companies. He specializes in counseling and complex litigation in environmental law, toxic torts and insurance disputes. Mr. Giannotto has tried many cases to judgment, and has briefed and argued numerous cases before federal and state appellate courts. Mr. Giannotto is a member of the Trial Law Institute and Diversity Law Institute.

Mr. Giannotto is annually recognized for his mining and environmental litigation work by U.S. News Best Lawyers and Chambers USA, which notes that he “is a disciplined thinker and a strategist,” and “the most knowledgeable individual anywhere when it comes to the Resource Conservation and Recovery Act and its application to mining.” Mr. Giannotto is touted as an “Environmental Mining Superstar” by Legal 500 USA, and was named “Lawyer of the Year” for mining law in Washington, D.C. by U.S. News Best Lawyers, where he is also recognized for his environmental litigation work. Mr. Giannotto is a fellow of the Litigation Council of America, an invitation-only trial lawyer honorary society.
