Debevoise’s Paris office has serviced a domestic and international client base for more than 50 years. It brings over half a century of experience to bear in advising an impressive list of major clients.
Today, the firm has a team of highly skilled lawyers in France who work as part of an international team on a range of corporate and contentious matters.
The Paris team works with international clients as well as large French corporates. Its French client base includes many CAC 40 companies, while the team also works closely with colleagues in the US on behalf of international clients with interests in France.
Through providing French and US law advice, the team is well placed to advise domestic clients when their businesses look beyond France’s borders, particularly in global offerings of equity and equity-linked securities.
The M&A practice in Paris is renowned for its ability to handle complex, cross-border transactions involving French companies. Its track record in this area has drawn praise from the major legal directories, with Chambers Europe stating that “the firm retains a wealth of high-quality practitioners and prestigious clients in the corporate and M&A area.”
Underpinning much of the Paris team’s corporate work is a highly regarded Tax practice, which provides advice on the tax issues essential to all corporate activity, drawing on its experience in national and international taxation law.
The Paris office also includes a thriving contentious practice, focusing on litigation, arbitration, white collar crime and internal investigations. The team regularly represents governments, international companies and NGOs in litigation before the courts of France and other countries. It is also one of the few firms in Europe with resident partners experienced in matters relating to the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act and other US statutes applicable to European firms, making the Paris team ideally placed to advise clients subject to investigation by US authorities.
