Geoffrey Burgess is a corporate partner with a broad international practice in Europe (including Russia), Africa and India, with particular focus in the private equity, TMT, healthcare and aviation industries.

Mr. Burgess co-leads the India and Africa practice groups at Debevoise and is also a leader in the firm’s Alternative Assets Transactions and Liquidity Solutions Group, with a focus on GP replacement projects.


Qualified New York and Illnois 1994; joined Debevoise & Plimpton LLP 1997; joined London office 1999; partner 2001.




Mr. Burgess currently serves as Co-Chair of The African Private Equity and Venture Capital Association (AVCA) Legal and Regulatory Committee. Mr. Burgess has been a member of the board of advisors of the Survey of East European Law, Columbia University School of Law since 1993. .

Lord Peter Goldsmith KC chairs the European and Asian litigation group, and Patrick Taylor leads the international dispute resolution practice, which handles commercial and investment treaty arbitrations, particularly in the upstream oil and gas, energy and telecoms sectors.
