Alan Kartashkin is a partner based in the Moscow office. Mr. Kartashkin advises boards of directors and special committees of independent directors of leading Russian companies on corporate governance issues. He has led some of the largest public M&A transactions in Russia, including the mergers of Uralkali with Silvinit and RTS with MICEX. Mr. Kartashkin has represented major Russian enterprises in public equity and debt offerings in the international capital markets, including premium listings on the London Stock Exchange, as well as in a diverse range of financing transactions.


Mr. Kartashkin joined the firm’s New York office in 1996 and moved to the Moscow office in 2001.

Mr. Kartashkin received his J.D. from Cornell Law School in 1996, and a law degree with honours from the Moscow State Institute for International Relations in 1993.

At Debevoise & Plimpton LLP, highlights included advising Norilsk Nickel on a $2.5bn syndicated term loan facility with an international syndicate comprising 17 banks and financial institutions. Managing partner Alan Kartashkin’s broad expertise spans securities, corporate finance and aircraft financing. His recent work includes advising Aeroflot on the sale of its quasi-treasury shares by its subsidiary Aeroflot-Finance, representing 4.84% of the Aeroflot share capital totalling RUB9.8bn. Natalia Drebezgina assisted Polyus with converting $250m in senior bonds into GDRs, which were listed on the London Stock Exchange.

Managing partner and M&A, securities and corporate finance specialist Alan Kartashkin at Debevoise & Plimpton LLP advised Uralkali on the proposed delisting of its shares on the Moscow Exchange, and MegaFon on a $1.25bn buyback programme of its ordinary shares and GDRs. Maxim Kuleshov  assisted MegaFon with its recently completed transaction with SLV Group to merge the Svyaznoy and Euroset retail chains. Alyona Kucher handled a leading bank’s acquisition of several mixed-use multi-functional offices and administrative buildings near the Moscow International Business Centre.
