Career

Simon specialises in commercial litigation with a particular focus on financial services and markets. He has advised on substantial claims relating to securities issuances and trading, interest rate derivatives, bank support units, financial benchmark manipulation, banking fraud, shareholder claims, and general commercial matters. Simon also advises on disputes relating to the environment, climate change, and other ESG issues, in both commercial and administrative law contexts.

Simon is currently involved in several shareholder claims pursuant to sections 90 and 90A of the Financial Services and Markets Act 2000, a claim by shareholders for relief pursuant to the Companies Act 2000 in connection with the consequences of climate change, securities claims outside of the jurisdiction (in both mainland Europe and the US), a high profile LIBOR manipulation matter, a case dealing with the Quincecare duty, and claims relating to online trading platforms.  Simon is also involved in a judicial review proceedings against the UK’s financial regulator

He has extensive experience of cases involving third-party funding and is familiar with alternative dispute resolution, particularly mediation and arbitration under various rules.

Prior to training as a solicitor, Simon worked in derivatives and structured products for some of the world’s most prominent financial services institution. This gives him a degree of industry insight that is unusual for a lawyer. His clients include institutional asset managers, publicly listed companies, small and medium-sized enterprises, firms of solicitors, insolvency office holders, members of parliament, NGOs, and lobbying groups.
