Testimonials

‘They have a comprehensive understanding of commercial real estate with practical solutions to complex issues.’

‘Marc Hanson provides direct answers to questions rather than options based on scenarios that may or may not happen.’

‘The practice is large enough to ensure they have exposure to the full breadth of the market and have their finger on the pulse, however, they are not so large that you do not get the attention of senior partners. They are ‘the’ London real estate solicitors and the teams work closely and collaboratively together.’

‘Marc Hanson for us is a trusted adviser and our go-to construction solicitor. He navigates the path between defending the client’s interests and commercial pragmatism better than any I have come across.’

‘I have found BCLP to be the best in practice as a construction advisory team. The individuals involved in this team are very respected, fair and open-minded. Fee discussions are always sensible and solutions are always at the forefront to their approach. I would highly recommend BCLP to other colleagues in the industry.’

‘The non-contentious construction practice at BCLP has a large group of talented individuals with a good mix of senior and junior attorneys to achieve efficiency. Their team has years of experience negotiating complex development and construction agreements throughout London. Additionally, as a full-service law firm with a large real estate practice, they can easily collaborate with their colleagues to confirm all landlord/tenant and financing matters are addressed during construction negotiations.’

Testimonials

I really like the BCLP property litigation team. I find them obviously very knowledgeable, but also with a high degree of commercial awareness. Their advice is in the context of what it might mean for us in the bigger picture, for example.

Very professional and competent firm and they are interested in understanding your business needs and providing a tailored service.

The entire BCLP team worked tirelessly to understand all aspects of the case, providing a high degree of challenge and pulling together detailed reports on each aspect of the case as well as clear guidance on the risks, merits and potential costs as the case progressed.

All the way through the case we felt as though we were in safe hands and irrespective of a win or lose BCLP could not have done a better job articulating our case. I would have no hesitation using BCLP again if we had another property litigation issue.

A very personable team and therefore a pleasure to work with, given the complexity of our legal case. They provided clear, concise and pragmatic advice, whilst keeping the client up to date with expenditure and next steps to consider and take. Analytical in approach, with a strong sense of teamwork throughout.’

Testimonials

‘As a very small player in the securitisation market place with an uncommon product offering, we chose BCLP as our legal counsel for their extensive market knowledge, willingness to learn about and understand our financial product lines and having a dedicated team assigned with interaction and full access to senior counsel at all times. During the difficulties of the pandemic BCLP were fully supportive advising, guiding and challenging decisions we made that they knew would not be the best choice later on.’

‘We had no knowledge of the new regulations for STS and ESMA or how to approach ensuring they were satisfied. With BCLP’s help they took us through each element, explained what it meant and how to evidence we met the criteria. A dedicated associate provided us with simple to use tables to track updates on how and what work we had done to progress the prospectus that later provided us with a reference point to cross check amendments and updates made by the arranger were accurate.’

‘Prashanth Satyadeva made himself available at very short notice if we needed his help, even making himself available when he managed to get away on a break. He went above and beyond helping and supporting us in the new SPV we were working on, he stepped in to help us understand the implications of trigger events related to our first SPV when the FCA introduced payment holidays which he then made sure were correctly addressed in the new deal and then helped us in closing that first deal early. He shared with us how the securitisation market was reacting to the pandemic pointing out trends and changes in attitude.’

‘Prashanth Satyadeva was simply incredibly professional, supportive and easy to work with. Regina Chan, an associate on the project, managed the tables of questions and segments of documents that required our business and system knowledge making sure we were aware of our responsibilities and timelines placed on us. Regina ensured she presented questions in a manner an inexperienced team would easily understand and helped us turn layman’s terms into wording that would be appropriate for a legal document.’

‘The lead partner is the key strength, bringing the experience of a Magic Circle firm partner and intimate knowledge of current market transactions / standards in combination with the knowledge of legacy structures. Around him he has assembled a capable team that supports him seamlessly so that he can focus effectively on his clients, their counterparts and their counsel. By taking careful instruction and regular updates of discussions between principals this practice avoids the disconnects we have seen with some other firms that waste time and money. The challenge we faced – the collision of legacy documentation, new market standards and public sector requirements – was resolved with great patience and responses off the bat that reflected the deep knowledge of what might work and what traps to avoid.’

‘Experience, availability, problem-solving and patience.’

The Lex 100 Verdict

BCLP is renowned for its ‘market-leading reputation in the real estate sector’ and ‘has pretty much facilitated the development of half of London’s skyline’. The international firm, which offers training contracts in London and Manchester, has a ‘prestigious client base’ and a ‘new global outlook’ thanks to the merger between Berwin Leighton Paisner and Bryan Cave in 2018. BCLP trainees enjoy being part of a ‘diverse workforce’ and welcome not only the firm’s ‘focus on inclusion’ but also ‘how it continuously strives to improve’. Colleagues are ‘capable but down-to-earth’ and, during the pandemic, supervisors have ‘really eased the pressure of working from home by regularly keeping in touch by calling to catch up – it makes you feel like you’re in the office to an extent’. All things considered, it makes sense that BCLP is the recipient of seven Lex 100 Winner awards, including approachability of supervisors, inclusiveness and client contact. Previous concerns about the firm’s retention rate also seem to have dissipated, with BCLP scooping up a Lex 100 Winner gong for confidence in being kept on post qualification. More frustrating is that the ‘hours can be consistently long’ and some recruits do not consider that the salary adequately reflects the workload. It follows that ‘late-night drafting’, an ‘overwhelming first week’ and ‘cancelling annual leave the night before because of work’ are worst moments. Best moments, on the other hand, included ‘closing on a half-billion-pound deal’, ‘my client secondment’ and ‘working with colleagues on matters from different jurisdictions’. For a firm with ‘leading expertise in real estate’, a ‘fantastic culture and extremely high-quality work’, research BCLP.
