Position

Geert Bovy is a Partner in the Brussels office. He advises clients on all aspects of commercial and consumer protection law. He has extensive experience in drafting and negotiating a wide range of commercial agreements (sourcing, manufacturing, logistics, distribution, agency, franchising, selective distribution, sales) in B2B and B2C contexts. He also advises clients on regulatory issues, marketing, promotion, labeling and advertising of consumer products in general and food products, pharmaceuticals and medical devices in particular. He often works on pan-European projects, assisting clients in managing the differences between EU Member States’ local laws in a coordinated manner. His practice also includes commercial litigation, including pre-litigation assistance, litigation and settlement negotiations.

Career

Geert joined Baker McKenzie in 2001 and became Partner in 2012. He was also a teaching assistant in procedural law at KULeuven. Furthermore, Geert regularly speaks at national and international seminars, workshops and webinars on different topics related to his practice.

Geert is a member of the Brussels Bar and a member of the European Food Law Association (EFLA).

Education

Geert has a Law Degree from KULeuven (2001) and spent an exchange year at University of Melbourne (2000).

  • The New Turkish Code of Obligations: Important Changes for Leases of Residential & Business Premises

    For decades, the primary Turkish laws governing leases of residential and business premises have been the Law on Leasing Real Property dated May 27, 1955 (the “Lease Law”) and the Turkish Code of Obligations No. 818 dated April 22, 1926 (the “Obligations Code”). Both of these laws, however, will be repealed and replaced with the new Turkish Code of Obligations No. 6098 dated January 11, 2011 (the “New Obligations Code”), which will enter into force on July 7, 2012.
