Tax Tier 1
Baker McKenzie provides ‘a high level of service’ and has ‘strong technical skills as well as finding the best solution for its clients’. Key areas for the firm include transactional tax planning, global reorganisations and tax litigation. The ‘creative and available’ Rodrigo Ogea, who is a specialist in cross-border investments, and Bruno Dominguez, who ‘merits recognition as a star in the Spanish tax market’, are the practice heads. Banking and finance Tier 2

It acted for Crédit Agricole CIB on the refinancing of a facility agreement granted to Grupo Villar Mir in order to increase the principal amount by €150m. Clients include CaixaBank, FC Barcelona, Sony and Suez. Baker McKenzie's practice head Carles Prat leads a team that includes intellectual property specialist Cristina Duch and employment-focused Mireia Sabaté. In a recent highlight, the department advised international food retailer DIA on the competitive sale process of four warehouses located in Spain and Portugal. The firm is also assisting key client Miquel Alimentacio with plans to expand abroad, particularly with the brand management aspects of the company's international expansion in Asia.
The team at Baker McKenzie combines experience in M&A and commercial life sciences, with a particular expertise in regulatory and compliance matters. The practice is led by regulatory expert Montserrat Llopart and Cecilia Pastor, who specialises in M&A and pharmaceutical law. Jorge Adell is advising TA Associates on its €16m acquisition of property owned by The English School of Asturias. Guillermo Rodrigo is assisting three of Spain’s largest banks, Banco Santander, BBVA and Banco Popular, with their sale of a portfolio of land to Metrovacesa for €1.3bn. Baker McKenzie has ‘an excellent understanding of background law and contract format’, as well as providing ‘constructive and to-the-point advice’. Working on a broad range of matters across the sector, the ‘quick, pleasant and productive’ team is led by the experienced Valeria Enrich, Alberto Escudero and Carles Prat, and successfully represented Honda Motor Europe before the Spanish Supreme Court, achieving the full annulment of the €1.2m fine imposed by the Spanish competition authority, which alleged that Honda had participated in an agreement with its dealers. The practice also acted for FedEx and TNT Express in infringement proceedings before the Spanish competition authority.
