Sunwinder (Sunny) Mann is a partner in the EU, Competition & Trade Practice Group of
Baker McKenzie's London office and co-leads the Compliance & Investigations Practice Group. He joined the London office as a trainee solicitor in 2000 and qualified as a solicitor in March 2002. He undertook an 18-month secondment to the Washington, DC and New York offices, where he worked as part of the international trade and antitrust teams. He has also spent some time in the Sydney and Hong Kong offices. He spent nine months on secondment with a major UK mobile network operator and a further four months with a major consumer goods manufacturer. He is a visiting professor at the Bruges and Warsaw campuses of the College of Europe. Sunny's practice focuses on international trade compliance, particularly export controls and trade sanctions. He has advised a number of clients in sectors such as energy, technology, telecoms, pharmaceutical and defence on UK and EU export control rules, including compliance, classification, licensing, WMD end-use controls and voluntary disclosure issues. He has successfully resolved numerous UK disclosure and enforcement cases and also advises on UN, EU and UK sanctions. In the US, Sunny worked on projects involving US export, re-export and deemed export controls and US trade embargoes. He continues to provide compliance training to European businesses on US trade restrictions. He also advises on anti-bribery compliance and investigations.

The team has extensive experience advising claimants in disputes against states and state-owned entities in commercial and investment-related arbitrations; it also acts across the oil and gas chain, acting for oil majors, service providers, and sovereign states and entities. The team acted for the Kazakhstan national gas operator, KazTransGas (KTG), in its dispute with the Government of Georgia concerning the appointment of a special receiver over KTG's Georgian subsidiary. Edward Poulton and Andy Moody are 'both very experienced and have sound judgment'.   • The New Turkish Code of Obligations: Important Changes for Leases of Residential & Business Premises

    For decades, the primary Turkish laws governing leases of residential and business premises have been the Law on Leasing Real Property dated May 27, 1955 (the “Lease Law”) and the Turkish Code of Obligations No. 818 dated April 22, 1926 (the “Obligations Code”). Both of these laws, however, will be repealed and replaced with the new Turkish Code of Obligations No. 6098 dated January 11, 2011 (the “New Obligations Code”), which will enter into force on July 7, 2012.
