Position

Chantal Thompson has 17 years of experience advising clients on all aspects of UK pensions law. She is a partner in the Firm's Pension Practice Group in London and sits on the Main Committee of the 1,000-member Association of Pension Lawyers. Chantal also serves as member of the Management Committee and chair of Personnel Sub-Committee of London Cyrenians Housing Limited. She is a frequent speaker at seminars and courses on multiple aspects of pension law. Chantal Thompson advises companies and trustees on a wide range of legal issues arising from the operation of occupational pension schemes. Her practice focus includes pensions issues arising on outsourcing — including transfers from the public sector — as well as the full range of advisory work for employers and trustees. Chantal has worked on several projects involving the capping of final salary liabilities and the securing of final salary benefits.

Career

Joined Baker McKenzie 1994, partner 2001. Sits on the editorial board of PLC Pensions Online and has previously been a member of the main committee and of the Education and Seminars Committee of the Association of Pension Lawyers. A regular speaker at seminars for clients and on courses on many aspects of pensions law. Frequently quoted in pensions journals, most recently in Pensions Expert.

  • The New Turkish Code of Obligations: Important Changes for Leases of Residential & Business Premises

    For decades, the primary Turkish laws governing leases of residential and business premises have been the Law on Leasing Real Property dated May 27, 1955 (the “Lease Law”) and the Turkish Code of Obligations No. 818 dated April 22, 1926 (the “Obligations Code”). Both of these laws, however, will be repealed and replaced with the new Turkish Code of Obligations No. 6098 dated January 11, 2011 (the “New Obligations Code”), which will enter into force on July 7, 2012.
