United States > Antitrust > Civil litigation/class actions: defense

Baker Botts L.L.P.‘s vastly experienced antitrust group represents clients in the full range of antitrust issues, including both civil and criminal litigation. Widely considered as an antitrust destination practice, its caseload encompasses private actions, class actions, parallel litigation in state and federal courts, multi-district litigation, and other complex proceedings. Maureen Ohlhausen and John Taladay jointly lead the group from Washington DC. Other key figures in the DC office include William Lavery, an expert in price-fixing, monopolization, Robinson-Patman violations and sham litigation; Joseph Ostoyich, who has a long track record of representing household multinationals in high-stakes litigation; and Erik Koons, who is noted for his experience in nationwide class action claims. Peter Huston is a contact in the firm’s San Francisco office. Former group co-head Stephen Weissman  departed in February 2021 to join Gibson, Dunn & Crutcher LLP.

United States > Antitrust > Cartel

One of Baker Botts L.L.P.‘s strong suits is its handling of a mixture of criminal and civil cartel government investigations, as well as follow-on litigation, in dozens of jurisdictions worldwide. The team assists a wide array of clients in both longstanding and new investigations, predominantly arising in the auto parts, cathode ray tubes, generic pharmaceuticals, dental supply distribution, and poultry sectors. Headed up by Maureen Ohlhausen and John Taladay, the department includes “no-poach” agreement expert Joseph Ostoyich (‘the best-qualified competition law attorney we have ever worked with‘). Other key practitioners include Erik Koons and Stacy Turner, both of whom are frequently sought after for antitrust investigation work. All named attorneys are located in Washington DC. Former group co-head Stephen Weissman left to join Gibson, Dunn & Crutcher LLP in February 2021.
