Akin Gump Strauss Hauer & Feld LLP is highly regarded for representing leading financial institutions and public companies, including private investment funds, broker dealers, and public accounting firms, in private litigation arising under the federal securities and commodities laws, as well as related investigations and enforcement proceedings. The firm’s securities litigators regularly collaborate with its market-leading hedge fund and private equity fund advisory practice to handle cutting-edge litigation issues, such as short-swing trading claims for investment funds. Practice head Stephen M. Baldini in New York led the defense of a special committee of Eastman Kodak directors in investigations related to trading and stock options grants in advance of a public news announcement that the company had entered into a letter of interest concerning a loan from the United States Development Finance Corporation (DFC). M. Scott Barnard and Michelle Reed in Dallas also play key roles in the practice. In New York, the team gained emerging partner talent Uri Itkin from Kasowitz Benson Torres LLP in May 2022.
