Position

Mr. Grondona is one of the founding partners of PAGBAM.

He focuses his practice mainly on Banking & Financial Institutions, Corporate Finance, Internet & Technology, and Telecommunications. Further, he has extensive experience in advising local and international companies on Aviation Law, Energy Law and Insurance.

 

Career

Mr. Grondona was associated with Arnold & Porter in Washington, D.C., United States of America (1981‐1982).

He is a former syndic and member of the Board of Directors of the Banco Central de la República Argentina (the Argentine Central Bank).

Mr. Grondona was professor of Constitutional Law at the Universidad de Buenos Aires from 1984 through 2011.

He has authored the books “La Reglamentación de los Derechos Constitucionales. Teoría del orden de derechos“, Editorial Depalma, (1986) and contributed to “Constitución y Poder Político“, Editorial Astrea, (1987), “Joint Ventures with International Partners”, Butterworths, (1989), “La Justicia Abierta“, Marymar, (1990). In addition, Mariano Grondona Grondona has authored the following articles: “El Funcionamiento de los Tratados de Inversión”, “Exámenes de Constitucionalidad” and several articles published in legal reviews.

Mr. Grondona is a member of the Bar Association of the city of Buenos Aires. He is a member of the Executive Committee of the Sociedad Rural Argentina.

Education

Mr. Grondona received his law degree from the Universidad Católica Argentina in 1980. He obtained a Master in Comparative Jurisprudence at New york University, School of Law (New York, NY, United States) in 1981.

During 2017/18, Pérez Alati, Grondona, Benites & Arntsen suffered the departures of highly rated younger partners Federico Wilensky, who left for an in-house role at TGLT, and José Martínez de Hoz (n), who joined splinter firm Martínez de Hoz & Rueda. However, the firm’s senior firepower remains intact, with practice head Diego Serrano Redonnet, who is regarded ‘among the best in his field’, and Mariano Grondona both recommended for banking matters. Recent highlights include advising the dealer managers and the local placement agents on a $210m bond offering by the Province of Jujuy and also advising China Development Bank on a $150m loan to Banco de Inversión y Comercio Exterior.

Knowledgeable and experiencedPérez Alati, Grondona, Benites & Arntsen fields a ‘very strong corporate practice’; certainly, the firm’s impressive band of high-profile senior partners and its longstanding reputation as a key player in Argentina’s M&A environment should help to insulate it from the worst effects of its recent partnership split. Founding partner Jorge Perez Alati is a stalwart in the M&A area and maintains an active practice. The ‘extremely commercial and strategicSantiago Daireaux is also a prominent figure and led on several of the department’s deals over the past year, such as advising Victoria Capital Partners on its $230m acquisition of Los Grobo and also assisting A Priori Capital with the $180m sale of a controlling stake in Grupo Zucamor to Arcor. Elsewhere, corporate finance partner Diego Serrano Redonnet advised Genneia on its $40m acquisition of Loma Blanca IV. Mariano Grondona and Pedro Eugenio Aramburu are also key contacts. Dispute resolution

Pérez Alati, Grondona, Benites & Arntsen has notable expertise in contentious TMT matters. Recent contentious mandates saw Mariano Grondona represent Google before the Supreme Court in a high-profile case regarding internet service provider (ISP) liability. In addition, Lautaro Ferro advised MercadoLibre in another case concerning ISP liability, this one before the Court of Appeals. Luis Incera and Arnaldo Cisilino are also highly regarded for contentious work. In 2018, the group saw the departure of key name José Alfredo Martínez de Hoz Jr as well as partner Francisco Amallo, who both left for Martínez de Hoz & Rueda.
