Health Advisory and Litigation

Position

Since Ed joined he has played a significant part in our growth both in his support for our internal team but also his work on growing our client base.

He is a senior Manchester Associate specialising in advocacy and advisory work, spanning Inquests, Mental Health law, the Court of Protection, the Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards, judicial review proceedings, GMC fitness to practise, Gross Negligence Manslaughter and data protection issues.  That breadth means that he continues to impress NHS England and the long list of NHS Acute Trusts, Mental Health Trusts, Ambulance Services, Clinical Commissioning Groups, Private Healthcare providers and individual practitioners he works for. His advocacy is notable and commented on by other law firms, coroners and clients. He has the combination of excellent representation and close friendly support which our clients and their clinicians value.

He works closely with Becky Fitzpatrick on the really complex mental health and capacity matters advising on the interplay between the Mental Capacity Act 2005 and the Mental Health Act 1983 as well as matters concerning incapacitated individuals who are deprived of their liberty and related human rights issues, but the range of other queries he also confidently covers is impressive.

He has set aside time to commit to a lead generation programme for business development and has produced his own inquest-training offering purchased by NHS Trusts, which he runs jointly with a coroner. This is an excellent contribution to our profile development with new and prospective clients. The session feedback is consistent and impressive “It was an excellent day with a good insight of what is expected when attending a coroner’s court, good advice and very well presented” and “Really enjoyable delivery. Very helpful explanation on how to prepare for court and give good evidence”   Word is spreading and more Trusts are now approaching us to purchase the session.
