Position

Legal Director, Chris, specialises in acting for education sector clients on a wide range of property matters, academy conversions and the acquisition and disposal of school land. 

Chris has experience in a wide range of property matters in the education sector. His experience includes:

  • acting in relation to over 200 academies conversions, both 2010 Act conversions (including free schools and studio schools) and sponsor-led projects, involving foundation schools (both with and without trusts), community schools, voluntary controlled schools and voluntary aided schools, as well as PRUs. This includes dealing with shared use agreements, third party access, PFI, City Learning Centres, chance to share agreements and other issues affecting school sites
  • acting for numerous schools in relation to conversion to foundation status (both with and without trusts). Again, this also includes dealing with shared use agreements, third party access, PFI, City Learning Centres, chance to share agreements and other issues affecting school sites
  • acting for a local authority on the transfer of a school site to a trust school, involving consideration of a pre-existing PFI agreement and user rights of various third parties and other bodies
  • acting for a county council regarding the grant of a long lease to a company specialising in the provision of football facilities on a school site. This involved an agreement for lease, conditional upon the tenant obtaining and implementing planning permission for the construction of the football pitches and facilities on the school site
  • planning permission for the construction of the football pitches and facilities on the school site.
