Position

Associate, Kate, has worked for Browne Jacobson since July 2007. Initially employed as a Paralegal, she cross-qualified as a Solicitor in March 2010 and has worked for the social care team since this date. During her training Kate also spent periods of time in the retail property team and the environment and advocacy team.

She has experience of working for local authority and insurance clients in defending social care providers against allegations of abuse and professional negligence involving children. Kate has day-to-day conduct of county court matters, and has conduct of a large, high profile group of litigated claims. The groups spans multiple insurers and two local authorities and has attracted a large amount of local and national press attention. She has dealt with complex professional negligence claims and supervises several members of the social care team.

Kate’s recent experience includes:

  • managing a large group action involving the selection and progression of lead cases
  • advising clients on claims under the Human Rights Act
  • providing advice to clients on potential liabilities arising out of Domestic Homicide Reviews
  • advising a client on a potential DPA breach and breach of confidence
  • advising a client on three linked and complex failure to remove and negligence claims, which concluded with a large costs order made in favour of the Defendant
  • advising clients on the option of bringing alleged abusers into proceedings in order to recover costs and instituting recovery proceedings against alleged abusers post settlement.
