Position

Selina is a non-contentious IP transactional lawyer with particular experience of working with clients in the utilities, energy and tech sectors.

Selina advises on complex transactional IP matters, drafts and negotiates a range of agreements relating to the exploitation of IP (including technology transfer, licensing, R&D, manufacturing and collaboration agreements). Recent experience includes: .

 

  • Advising a major gas and electricity transmission and distribution entity on entering into technology collaborations for the development of bespoke technologies capable of implementation in the gas and electricity fields to drive efficiencies. This included advising on the regulated Ofgem funding streams and their interaction with the creation and usage of IP

  • Advising a large Chinese entity on the risks associated with entering into a 'collaboration and secondment agreement' and 'master technology agreement' with the Abu Dhabi National Oil Company dealing with the movement of technology between entities and the collaboration for further development of technology, including the full range of IP considerations

  • Advising a private sector supplier of the UK’s large nuclear sites in respect of IP ownership, contractual protections and licensing rights for new IP generated throughout the project

  • Advising a large Hong Kong incorporated entity on IP ownership, licensing and warranty protection in respect of entering into a special purpose vehicle dealing with solar panel technology

  • Advising an engineering company on its supply contracts relating to the sale of patentable technology used in turbine generators for electricity generation

  • Advising a major international utilities provider on patentable technology developed and used in its offshore wind farms

  • Advising government nuclear authorities on ownership of technologies developed over decades with various collaborating parties, this included contractual interpretation and patent analysis

  • Advising a large Chinese entity on the IP issues involved in its investment into the UK nuclear market through entering into a joint venture for the development of new nuclear technologies

Bonita Trimmer is ‘very strong on detail’ and alongside Mark Daniels continues to act for the London Taxi Corporation in relation to an ongoing dispute to trademark the shape of the London black cab. Browne Jacobson LLP is frequently instructed in large IT projects, with particular experience advising clients in the financial services, health, insurance and public sectors. 'IT contracts expert' Anthony Nagle continues to lead a team advising the Crown Prosecution Service on IT projects including procurement, integration, alignment and management of applications support and hosting services. The team also acted for Manchester Underwriting Management  on the procurement of a new IT System. Declan Cushley heads up the practice which is instructed by TopCashBack, Thorntons Plc and Itelligence Business Solutions (UK). Selina Hinchcliffe joined the firm's Nottingham office from Eversheds Sutherland (International) LLP.
