Jamie is a Legal Director in the firm’s Education Team, being promoted to that role from Associate on its inception in May 2017. Jamie has played a key role in building the firm’s education client base in the North West since moving to our Manchester office when it opened in 2012.
He has unrivalled experience in the management of academy projects, having been involved in over 600 academy projects nationally over the last eight years, with the majority of these projects being based in the North West. Jamie is the lead contact for a number of the largest trusts in the region and regularly attends board meetings at the request of CEOs to provide strategic governance advice.
Jamie has particular expertise in developing innovative approaches to academy groups and collaborations in the education sector having advised schools, academies and sixth form colleges on sophisticated corporate governance issues, including the establishment of trading companies, collaborative groupings and teaching school alliances advising sponsors and academy trusts on group structures, joint ventures collaboration agreements.
As the sector matured and trust to trust transfer of academies began, Jamie developed a sector leading reputation alongside Nick Mackenzie (partner in our Birmingham education team) for this new area of work and as such we have secured a significant proportion of work in this emerging area.
Jamie also devised and runs a termly multi-academy trust CEO roundtable event. So highly regarded is this regular fixture that it is attended by 15-20 CEOs and FDs from a number of influential multi-academy trusts in the region and is often oversubscribed. Over the last year he has provided content for various education publications on a range of governance matters including helping producing cutting edge governance resources for Optimus Education and supporting the Association of School and College Leaders on producing a guidance note on ESFA security.
