M&P Legal has a structure of directors, counsel and associate advocates. The team's practical and technical experience is combined with high-quality legal ability. The rainmakers are joint managing directors John Aycock and Chris Murphy, both of whom trained and qualified as solicitors in England and now have vast expertise and experience in their respective practice areas.

M&P Legal has three departments: litigation, commercial and private client, and has built up a particular respect for its work in the areas of company restructures, AIM listings, clinical negligence, inquests, employment, regulatory and insolvency. Clients include the Isle of Man government's Department of Health and Social Care, the Isle of Man government's Financial Services Authority, and is the Isle of Man counsel for English law firms (including Clifford Chance, FieldFisherWaterhouse, Bond Dickinson, Eversheds, Burges Salmon and many more). It also acts as legal adviser for Unite the Union.

Types of work undertaken: Dispute resolution: the strong litigation team at M&P Legal is known for its rapid response, accuracy and excellence. In John Aycock, Chris Brooks and Damian Molyneux, it has three senior advocates who are very well known locally and who receive regular referrals from other advocates when a conflict of interest arises. Areas of expertise include banking disputes, commercial disputes, contract claims, debt recovery, environmental law, financial misselling, foreign judgment enforcement/registration, fraud and asset tracing, injunction work, inquests, insolvency, international and offshore litigation, medical law/clinical negligence, personal injury/accident claims, professional negligence, property disputes, regulatory and trust disputes.

Employment: John Aycock is by some distance the most experienced employment law practitioner in the Isle of Man, and his presence makes M&P Legal a leader in this field, particularly as the unit also has the Cambridge University-educated Chris Brooks, who is a regular before the Isle of Man tribunals on employment law matters. They advise on compromise or settlement agreements, contract and handbooks, employment tribunal claims, helpline services, immigration, Isle of Man work permits, redundancy, restrictive covenants and workplace mediation.

Commercial: Mr Murphy is among the most experienced commercial law practitioners in the Isle of Man. The commercial department has several specialist areas of expertise including mergers, acquisitions, joint ventures, banking and securities, trusts, financial services and offshore funds, together with associated compliance and management advice, insurance and liability law, international property, copyright, trade marks, patents, films and media law, e-commerce including online gaming, property law and commercial leasing and transport law including marine shipping and aviation.
