Position

Carly has extensive experience in both onshore and offshore jurisdictions, dealing with global, multinational and local clients and advising on all aspects of contentious and non-contentious employment law. She has an extremely busy practise and manages an employment team of 3 employment associates. Carly mostly focuses on advising, assisting and supporting employer organisations and high level senior executives. She has also developed a niche practise as an investigator as part of internal disciplinary and/or grievance procedures. As an accredited workplace mediator, she is particularly skilled in assisting clients work through issues with their employees, often working as a business partner with her clients.

She has been consistently ranked by leading directories as a rising star, a lawyer to watch and a specialist in her field. She has long been recognised as a Guernsey expert in employment law. She regularly prepares and provides tailored training to clients, prepares and delivers external seminars and is regularly involved in local initiatives in Guernsey.

As well as employment law, Carly has a keen interest in and frequently advises on data protection legislation and privacy related matters.

Career

Carly qualified as a lawyer in New South Wales in 2005 and in England and Wales in 2010. She worked at Minter Ellison in Sydney before relocating to Guernsey in 2009 where she worked for another offshore law firm in the role of Counsel. She joined Carey Olsen in 2017 and currently holds the title of Counsel.

Following a number of new hires and successful tender bids, Carey Olsen’s employment practice has seen a significant expansion of its client base of local and international businesses, financial services institutions and trust companies. A particularly strong contentious offering receives regular instructions for constructive and unfair dismissal claims, breach of trust claims, executive exits and contractual disputes. Non-contentious work include advising on employee and director agreements, contract reviews, as well as assisting the corporate team on the employment aspects of corporate transactions. Employment litigators Elaine Gray and Mark Dunster head the team, while highly-praised counsel Carly Parrott ('formidable negotiator') has a strong reputation for her work with financial services, professional services, commercial and retail clients.
