Fielding ‘experts in Bermuda corporate and regulatory law’, Carey Olsen Bermuda Limited advises a variety of insurers, intermediaries, risk managers and owners on a multitude of issues arising from the Bermuda insurance industry. In particular, it stands out for its involvement in high-profile transactions concerning new insurance companies, M&A activity, debt restructurings and licensing and regulatory requirements of commercial insurers, which are all among the key areas of focus for Mary Ward , whose ‘breadth of knowledge and experience within the Bermuda marketplace is exceptional’. Also leading the department is the ‘easy to work with, practical, savvy and bright’ Gavin Woods , who also has a track record in alternative risk financings and derivatives transactions. Senior associate Michelle Falcucci provides crucial support to the main partners.
Under the joint leadership of Mary Ward and Gavin Woods , Carey Olsen Bermuda Limited’s team routinely handles international and local M&A transactions, corporate governance matters, private equity transactions, corporate restructurings, and specialist shareholder issues and company migrations. Demonstrating ‘a very strong commercial awareness‘, the department (which possesses a ‘great understanding of the insurance sector and its regulation in Bermuda‘) also specialises in non-transactional regulatory matters, particularly in relation to the licensing and regulatory requirements of commercial insurers and the proposed establishment of new business structures. Senior associate Michelle Falcucci provides substantial support to the key partners on major transactions. In recent news, Steven Rees Davies arrived from Appleby in August 2021, bolstering the group’s credentials in the fintech and digital asset sectors in particular.
