Christopher Arrowsmith - Simcocks

Within: Dispute resolution

According to one client, Simcocks ‘stands head and shoulders above the crowd’; it acts for both claimants and defendants in multi-party commercial disputes, as well as in court applications in the context of schemes of arrangement and takeover proceedings. Practice head Christopher Arrowsmith ‘is excellent, knowledgeable, highly experienced in trust litigation and someone you want to get involved on your side’. He is currently acting for one of the defendants in a multi-million-dollar quantum claim concerning the design and storage of high-value computer components, while advocate Elizabeth Simpson is representing an international life insurance company in a multi-jurisdictional group action pertaining to insurance and regulatory law issues. The practice was boosted by the arrival of advocate and English solicitor Rebecca Paterson from Hill Dickinson LLP in Liverpool. Advocate Caroline Jennings, who ‘is an excellent non-confrontational communicator’ and heads the firm’s family law practice, is also noted.

Associate Kevin O’Loughlin is ‘a leading trusts practictioner on the Isle of Man’ and plays a key role in Simcocks’ team, which ‘is able to meet tight turnaround times without sacrificing its ability to provide sound, pragmatic and well-reasoned advice’. The group is currently advising an Isle of Man-regulated trustee which owns a landed estate in the UK on tax liability issues, and the highly recommended Amy Coole assisted a wealth management company with the conversion of an existing structure into a private trust company. On the contentious side, Christopher Arrowsmith collaborated with O’Loughlin to defend the beneficial owner of an Isle of Man company who sought to transfer its shares to her in order to wind up the structure; this was challenged by the shareholders, who applied for the court’s directions. Phil Games spearheads the offering and is also a name to note.
