Position

Alasdair is a Partner in Bedell Cristin’s team covering Banking and Finance, Capital Markets and Corporate law advice team.  Based in Jersey, Alasdair practises both Jersey and British Virgin Islands law. His practice includes structured finance, high yield, banking, corporate, debt and equity listings on The International Stock Exchange (TISE) as well as insolvency, restructuring and security enforcement with a particular focus on distressed CMBS transactions.

Alasdair is an experienced finance lawyer having spent five years at Allen & Overy in London and Hong Kong and five years at another Jersey law firm before joining Bedell Cristin in 2008.

Career

Trained Tods Murray, Edinburgh; qualified 1997; Allen & Overy, London and Hong Kong 1997-2003; Ogier, Jersey 2003-08; admitted as an advocate of the Royal Court of Jersey 2006; partner Bedell Cristin 2008 to date. Admitted as a solicitor of the Eastern Caribbean Supreme Court of the British Virgin Islands 2010.

Bedell Cristin‘s ‘diligent, commercial and very user-friendly’ practice advises clients on a range of debt transactions, including securitisations, structured finance, high yield bonds and derivative transactions, and is increasingly advising on CLO matters. The firm is also frequently called upon to act as a listing agent, an area of expertise for practice head Alasdair Hunter, who also advises on securitisations and CLO deals structured through Jersey. Senior associate Louise Ridgway advises clients on debt and equity listings on TISE, with further expertise in matters concerning high yield bonds.

Bedell Cristin advises financial sector clients, including major international banks and private equity houses, on a range of transactions, advising on leveraged and acquisition finance deals, with further expertise in Islamic finance and real estate transactions. Alasdair Hunter heads up the practice, assisting US and EU investments banks, asset managers and credit funds with loan origination, restructuring and enforcement matters. Global managing partner Tim Pearce specialises in real estate and corporate finance transactions, while counsel Antony Clerehugh and senior associate Malcolm Ellis act on a range of financing structures. Promoted to managing associate in September 2022, Louise Hassell assists lenders with a range of financing matters. Mark Dunlop has moved to Walkers‘ London office.

Bedell Cristin‘s ‘consistent and knowledgeable approach’ allows it to take on lead counsel roles in cross-border transactions, with particular expertise in private equity and real estate deals. The firm is also frequently instructed on restructuring matters, and also provides advice on regulatory issues. Global managing partner Tim Pearce spearheads the practice, with a strong M&A practice in addition to his banking and finance work. Guy Westmacott is an M&A specialist and also offers assistance with competition and financial services regulations, while Alasdair Hunter handles insolvency and restructuring matters.
