Position

Kate Ovenden leads our Financial Services Law team in Guernsey, focusing on Banking & Finance matters.

Kate joined the firm in 2006, after ten years as a corporate and financial services lawyer at leading City firm Withers LLP. Prior to that, she gained extensive experience as a trust and company administrator in Guernsey.

Kate acts for local fiduciaries, licensees and banks, as well as multinational companies, intermediaries, private owner-managed businesses and high net worth individuals. She specialises in advising on banking and finance matters, the establishment and administration of all types of investment funds and related structures, financial services and regulatory issues, as well as having a significant corporate and commercial practice.

Focusing primarily on lenders, Bedell Cristin‘s team advises both banks and alternative lenders on real estate, infrastructure and Islamic finance transactions. Notably, the firm has also had success in enforcing securities and has acted for clients in regard to insolvency-related matters. The firm’s managing partner Kate Ovenden leads the practice, assisting with real estate financing as well as advising on the issuing and enforcement of securities. Dylan Latimer‘s practice is centred on real estate and aviation finance, with further experience in subscription line facilities.

Bedell Cristin marshals expertise in all aspects of corporate and commercial law, including funds, banking and regulatory issues, advising clients on both international and Guernsey-based transactions. Leading the practice is the ‘very committed’ managing partner Kate Ovenden, who combines funds, banking and finance expertise with her substantial M&A practice. Dylan Latimer is the team’s private equity specialist, advising real estate and infrastructure investors on multi-jurisdictional transactions.  John Scanlan joined from Carey Olsen in January 2023, augmenting the firm’s M&A and investment fund offering, while insurance specialist Richard Sharp and associate James Walsh returned to Ogier in February 2023 and July 2022 respectively. Associate Tendai Gakanje is also recommended for M&A and corporate advisory work.
