Paul trained at PricewaterhouseCoopers Legal LLP in London, joining the Corporate Group upon qualification as an English Solicitor in 2003 (currently non-practising). Paul spent a further five years at PwC Legal carrying out a wide variety of general corporate work. In 2008 he joined Mourant Ozannes in Jersey and became a partner of Mourant Ozannes L.P. on 1 February 2015.
Paul advises leading corporate and financial institutions on a wide range of transactions. He has particular experience in relation to schemes of arrangement, IPOs (including special purpose acquisition companies ‘SPACs’), listings on the Channel Islands Securities Exchange (CISE), capital markets (debt and equity), public and private mergers and acquisitions, corporate restructuring and joint ventures. In addition, his practice includes advising on banking transactions, security and general offshore structuring work.

At Mourant‘s ‘dependable and responsive’ capital markets practice, Robert Hickling handles heavyweight debt issuances by island entities, Eurobonds, the launch of exchange-traded funds and securitisations. Paul Martin also handles high-yield work, and group partner Jon Woolrich, on top of his practice in other areas, heads the firm’s listing arm and is particularly active in listing REITs on TISE. Capital markets specialist Amy Demetriou was elected to the partnership in February 2020. Gareth Rigby heads the firm’s broader corporate and finance team.
At Mourant, practice head Gareth Rigby‘s workload has included private equity and UK real estate deals (some of which concern social care), with James Hill also active in similar areas, with a number of mandates coming from real estate funds. Mark Chambers‘ practice has included locally critical deals of late, and Robert Hickling is notable for heavyweight deals structured as schemes of arrangement. Paul Martin has relationships with several leading asset managers and Jon Woolrich, who straddles the corporate and finance space, is one of several partners active for firm trophy client CVC. Iain Millar and Neil McCarroll are key counsels in the team.
Mourant has a finance practice that covers a full spectrum of work across types of lending and different participants in the marketplace. Gareth Rigby and James Hill both handle key real estate work, with Rigby also advising key names in private equity. Mark Chambers is active in fund finance on both the borrower and lender side. Robert Hickling is also active in the fund finance space, including advising some hedge funds, as is Paul Martin. Jon Woolrich has a broad practice financing all matters of assets from securitisations to private equity deals. Simon Gould is a notable name for financial services regulation, as is 2020 partner promotion Sarah Huelin. Iain Millar , James Daniel and Neil McCarroll are key counsels.
